FAQ - Ceramics Workshop Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our ceramics workshops

Getting Started

Do I need any prior experience to join a workshop?

+

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced ceramicists. We clearly mark which classes are beginner-friendly, and our instructors will guide you step-by-step through each technique. Everyone starts somewhere, and we love helping people discover their creativity with clay.

What should I wear to class?

+

Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Clay can be messy! We recommend:

  • Clothes you can move in easily
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Avoiding loose sleeves or dangling jewelry
  • Tying back long hair

We provide aprons, but clay may still get on your clothes.

What's included in the workshop price?

+

Your workshop fee includes:

  • All clay and materials needed for the class
  • Expert instruction and guidance
  • Use of all studio tools and equipment
  • Firing and glazing of your finished pieces
  • Aprons and studio access during your session

How long does it take to get my finished pieces?

+

After you create your pieces, they need time to dry, be fired in the kiln, get glazed, and fired again. This process typically takes 3-4 weeks. We'll notify you when your pieces are ready for pickup. The wait is worth it—watching your creation transform is magical!

Booking & Classes

How do I book a workshop?

+

You can book directly through our website by selecting your preferred class date and time. We recommend booking in advance as our popular classes fill up quickly. You'll receive a confirmation email with all the details you need for your session.

What's your cancellation policy?

+

Since we're a small artist-run studio we don't offer refunds on workshops. If you can't attend, we'll happily transfer your credit to sign up for another workshop.

Can I book a private session or group event?

+

Absolutely! We offer private bookings for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Private sessions are perfect for date nights, birthday parties, team building, bachelorette parties, or any special occasion. Contact us to discuss your vision and we'll create a customized experience for you.

What's the difference between your workshop types?

+

Wheel Throwing: Learn to use the pottery wheel to create bowls, cups, and vases. This technique requires practice but is incredibly rewarding.

Hand-Building: Create pieces without a wheel using techniques like pinch, coil, and slab building. Great for beginners and allows for more sculptural forms.

Glazing: Learn to apply color and finish to bisque-fired pieces. Perfect if you want to focus on surface decoration.

How many pieces can I make in one session?

+

This depends on the workshop and your pace. Typically, beginners can expect to complete 1-2 pieces in a 2-3 hour session. We focus on quality over quantity and encourage you to take your time enjoying the creative process. More experienced students often complete additional pieces.

Studio Details

Where are you located and is parking available?

+

We're located in El Sereno, Los Angeles. Street parking is available near the studio, and we're easily accessible by public transit. Detailed directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.

What is your class size?

+

We keep our classes intimate with a maximum of 6 students per session. This allows our instructors to give everyone personalized attention and ensures you have plenty of space and equipment to work comfortably.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

+

Unfortunately, our studio is not wheelchair accessible as it requires navigating stairs. We apologize for this limitation. If you have mobility concerns or other accessibility needs, please contact us before booking—we're happy to discuss your specific situation and explore possible accommodations.

Can I bring children to a workshop?

+

We offer specific family-friendly workshops designed for children ages 8 and up accompanied by an adult. For adult-focused classes, we ask that children not attend to maintain a focused creative environment. Check our schedule for family workshop dates or inquire about private family sessions.

After Your Workshop

How do I pick up my finished pieces?

+

We'll send you an email when your pieces are ready (typically 3-4 weeks after your class). You can pick them up during our studio hours. We'll hold your pieces for up to 60 days. If you can't make it to the studio, we can also arrange shipping for an additional fee.

Are my finished pieces food-safe and microwave-safe?

+

Yes! We use food-safe glazes and fire to the proper temperature to ensure your pieces are safe for food and drinks. Most pieces are also dishwasher and microwave-safe, though we recommend hand washing to preserve the longevity of your handmade ceramics.

What if my piece cracks or breaks during firing?

+

While rare, sometimes pieces can crack during the firing process due to air bubbles or structural issues. If this happens, we'll contact you and offer you a complimentary return session to remake your piece. Ceramics is an art form with beautiful unpredictability, and we're here to support your learning journey!
